Sheffield Wednesday fans slam on-loan midfielder after another woeful performance

Sheffield Wednesday fans have once again slammed Jacob Butterfield after he put in a poor performance in the 3-1 loss against Birmingham City.

Things had been looking up at Hillsborough in the last few weeks with their defence massively improving and the team even scoring a few goals to help them beat Reading in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup. But any fans hoping that they would be climbing back towards the top of the Sky Bet Championship anytime soon were dealt a serious blow after yesterday’s performance.

In what was a winnable game against Birmingham City, a team currently threatened by relegation, they simply succumbed to the Blues and made silly mistakes which allowed them to win the game. A defensive mix-up allowed David Davis to score the opening goal and another blunder gave the ball away to Jota who would then score an impressive goal. Marco Matias would then be sent off for an off the ball incident before Jota got a second to put Birmingham three up. There were hints of a come back when Lucas Joao scored in the second half but the sending off of Daniel Pudil dismissed that idea.

But while many players put in a bad performance in that game, it was Butterfield who received the bulk of the criticism. He has become the folk devil for many Wednesday fans after failing to impress since moving on loan from Derby County with the fact that Sam Winnall, who was swapped to the Rams as part, doing so well exacerbating the situation.
