Sheffield Wednesday fans were angry after they lost their first game of Jos Luhukay’s reign to Birmingham City.
Since Luhukay came in to replace Carlos Carvalhal as Wednesday’s manager, there was plenty of hope that the team was improving. They were picking up a lot of clean sheets and the goalscoring issues seemed to be resolved after the Owls comfortably put away Reading in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup last week.
But as they hosted Birmingham they found out that this team may not have improved as much as they thought with their defence being particularly bad. Joe Wildsmith and Frederico Venancio seemed to be on a different world as the defender chested a ball that Wildsmith was set to collect. David Davis was aware and he was first to pounce the ball and score. For the second there was another mix-up in the defender which Jota took advantage of to score an impressive goal from long distance.
Frustration was setting in and Marco Matias seemed to suffer the worst of it as he got involved in an off the ball incident with Cohen Bramall which resulted in him getting a red card. Birmingham were able to use that extra man advantage quickly as Jota got his second of the game by scoring after a rebound.
In the second half, there was something to cheer when Lucas Joao scored for Wednesday, marking their first league goal of 2018. But misery wasn’t far away when Daniel Pudil also got sent off after getting booked for a second time.
Wednesday fans were not happy about this result as you could imagine with the players getting the brunt of the criticism.
Liam Palmer and Morgan Fox need taking out to the pasture. They’re abysmal. Definitely need to get some more full backs in #swfc

So many questions today, but the biggest one is how on earth we won the second half? #swfc

Hope everyone’s ready for a relegation fight, or on that performance relegation. What a way to spend the 150th anniversary 😂and the fucking shirts are x2 smaller than they should be! #SWFC survey #swfc
