Premier League holders Chelsea have allowed attacking midfielder Kasey Palmer to leave on loan, linking up with Sky Bet Championship automatic promotion contenders Derby County. The former Huddersfield Town loanee links up with Gary Rowett’s side for the remainder of the campaign.

Palmer became Derby’s second recruit of the January transfer window, the first being striker Cameron Jerome from Norwich City. The 21-year-old could potentially make his Rams derby this weekend with Brrentford are the visitors to Pride Park Stadium.

Palmer has first end experience of the Sky Bet Championship, and it was successful too, as last season he contributed towards Huddersfield reaching the Premier League for the first time under head coach David Wagner. Injury would cut short his stint at the John Smith’s Stadium, but he further enhanced his reputation with the club.

The player is yet to make his mark on the first team scene at Stamford Bridge, and is yet to make a single appearance for the Stamford Bridge club, who won the Premier League last season under Italian Antonio Conte.

Johnny Russell was allowed to leave Derby to join MLS side Sporting Kansas City, so there was certainly a void in that area of the pitch that required filling. Still, there is the likes of Tom Lawrence, Andi Weimann and Ikechi Anya all challenging within this area as well. Rowett will be pleased to get the talented youngster added to his roster for the coming months.
