Nottingham Forest close to completing deal to sign Watford goalkeeper

Nottingham Forest are close to completing a deal to sign Watford’s Costel Pantilimon according to a report from journalist Alan Nixon.

Yesterday it was reported that Forest were interested in signing Pantilimon. While he was contracted at Watford, he was out on loan at Spanish side Deportivo la Coruna though he had struggled to get first team football while out in Southern Europe. And so Watford decided to terminate that loan like expected in the report yesterday and are now looking for Pantilimon to go somewhere else by the end of the transfer window today.

Forest were happy to be Pantilimon’s new team and they are close to completing a deal to sign him. Their current number one is the young shot stopper Jordan Smith and while he is well liked at the City Ground, adding some extra experience around him will only help him in the long term. And with Pantilimon having plenty of experience of the Premier League having played for the likes of Manchester City and Sunderland, he should be an upgrade on the position for Forest.

This move though may signal the end for another Forest goalkeeper. With Pantilimon coming in, Stephen Henderson is expected to leave the East Midlands side. While he has had spells as the number one, he has struggled for form at times and it appears that it is best for everyone involved that he heads to a new team and tries to rebuild his career and become a number one elsewhere.
