Derby County have offer turned down for Coventry City starlet

Derby County have had an offer for Coventry City’s Tom Bayliss rejected according to a report from journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Even though Coventry have had a miserable time over the last few years with the nadir coming after they were relegated to Sky Bet League Two last season, their academy is still highly respected and is capable of bringing through top youngsters. You could argue the club would be in an even worse position if it wasn’t for the academy. The latest top player to come from the academy is Bayliss. The 18-year-old midfielder has made 12 appearances this season, scoring once, and it has attracted plenty of attention from higher up the league ladder.

Earlier in the transfer window it was reported that Derby were interested in signing Bayliss but that they faced stiff competition from Tottenham Hotspur. While it is unknown what happened to the interest from Spurs, Derby have looked to follow up their like of the player by making a bid for him. While he may not break into their first team straight away, Derby also have a very good youth system that could benefit Bayliss.

But this bid from Derby has been rejected with Coventry looking to keep one of their top young players. The Sky Blues are looking to be promoted from League Two this season and while Bayliss isn’t a regular, he could soon show the team why he should be after a range of great performances earlier in the season. And with success seemingly being around the corner, they are keen to not be a selling team today.
