A move for Barnsley’s captain to Hull City is still ON

A move for Barnsley captain Angus MacDonald is still on, according to the Sky Sports journalist Tim Thornton.

The 26 year-old has been linked with a move to East Yorkshire and a deal could still be struck before the 11pm transfer deadline.

The Tigers have been in talks with Newcastle United winger Rolando Aarons over a loan move but he has turned them down to join Italian Serie A side Hellas Verona.

A deal for Angus MacDonald is still on though but could depend on whether or not Barnsley can bring in a centre-back to replace him. They have been linked with Nottingham Forest defender Matt Mills, who is free to leave the City Ground for the right price.

MacDonald has fallen down the pecking order at Barnsley due to suffering from an iron deficiency. However, Hull are in need of a new centre-back to strengthen their leaky defence and are willing to take a gamble on him. It is a race against time get the deal over the line.

MacDonald joined the Tykes last season from non-league side Torquay United. He adapted very well to life in the Championship and was named their captain for this season. He has struggled this campaign to get into their starting eleven but a move to Hull would be a big chance to rekindle his career.

Hull boss Nigel Adkins knows MacDonald from when he managed him as a youngster at Reading. This could play to their advantage going into the last stages of the transfer window.
