Martin, Reading near loan deal for Derby County striker

Reading near loan deal for Derby County striker

Reading are nearing the completion of a loan deal for Derby County’s Chris Martin according to a report from the Derby Telegraph.

Over the last few weeks, there has been a lot of reports of where Martin would end up signing with Derby willing to let him leave on loan this month. Not so long ago it appeared that Sunderland were close to completing a deal to sign him but that fell through though they did still try and finish off the deal this week. Cardiff City were also in the race as they looked to grab a striker for their battle for promotion but it appears that this fight has been won by Reading.

While the Royals are in an unfamiliar position as they battle relegation just one year after they came so close to being promoted after making the Sky Bet Championship play-off final, they knew they needed reinforcements to help them avoid dropping to Sky Bet League One. And with Martin being one of the most experienced strikers in the division and well-known for always being able to get a goal, it appears that Reading are going to be getting a superb striker for the tough battle.

This hasn’t been a great season for Martin so far. He hasn’t worked in this season’s Derby side and while he has made 29 appearances, he has only scored once with that goal coincidentally coming in a match against Reading. And now that he is close to heading to Berkshire side he will be hoping to make sure this season isn’t a complete loss.
