Luton Town close to signing Liverpool defender

Luton Town are close to signing Liverpool’s Lloyd Jones according to a report from journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Hatters have been doing incredibly well this season and currently sit on top of Sky Bet League Two. But after missing out on promotion last season, they know that they cannot be complacent if they want to seal promotion to Sky Bet League One. And so they have been looking to strengthen their squad during this transfer window and they are close to capping off the month with a great signing.

The player they are close to signing is Jones, a 20-year-old defender who is currently contracted to Liverpool. He came through their academy but it appears that their coaches believe that despite his talent that he won’t be able to break through into their first team. This has created a big chase this month with several teams from League One and Two trying to sign the four-time capped England U20s defender.

And it seems like Luton have won once again as it is expected that they will complete the signing for Jones later today. It will be a huge boost for their promotion campaign as they have been able to sign a defender that not only improves their back four but could be a key player for them for years to come. Of course now Jones, who has had loan spells at teams such as Accrington Stanley and Swindon Town, will now have to prove that he deserves to be in a team fighting for promotion.
