Watford on the verge of completing deal for Sunderland midfielder

English Premier League club Watford are understood to be on the verge of signing Sunderland midfielder Didier Ndong according to the Sunderland Echo.

The 23-year-old Gabonese international is thought to be one of the higher earners at The Stadium of Light after becoming The Black Cats’ £13.6 million club record signing in summer 2016.

The player has been linked with a move away from Wearside since Sunderland’s relegation from the English Premier League in May and it has now been reported that Watford are close to signing Ndong on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Should the midfielder impress during his stay at Vicarage Road, it is believed that The Hornets will hold an option to make the deal permanent in the summer.

Ndong started his career with Tunisian club CS Sfaxien after moving to the country as a teenager. The player quickly broke into the first team picture with the club and was a Tunisian CLP-1 league winner in 2012/2013.

In January 2015, the youngster moved to Europe to join French club Lorient and an impressive 18 months with Le Merlus resulted in a big money move to current club Sunderland. Ndong’s arrival on Wearside brought plenty of hope to the club, however, the player was unable to prevent Sunderland from falling through the relegation trapdoor last season following a truly dismal campaign.
