Derby County competing with West Brom for signature of Reading goalkeeper

Derby County are competing with West Bromwich Albion for the signature of Reading’s Jonathan Bond according to a report from the Mirror.

While the 24-year-old goalkeeper, who has been capped by both England and Wales’ youth systems, is contracted to Reading, he has spent this season so far on loan with Peterborough United. And he has impressed for the Posh so far, being a mainstay in between the posts while they go for promotion from Sky Bet League One. He impressed so much that Peterborough were very happy to extend his loan until the end of the season shortly after the transfer window opened.

These performances though have been attracting attention from higher up the league ladder. Both Derby and Premier League side West Brom have been watching him this season and are plotting a move for him. However that move is unlikely to come in this transfer window. Bond’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season and  both sides believe they could persuade him to turn down any potential new deal with Reading to head to them. The temptation of playing in the Premier League is a great lure for West Brom to use and Derby may well join them should their second half of the season go to plan.

Bond may struggle to break into both first teams though as neither appear to have plans to make him their number one. West Brom would be signing Bond to replace Boaz Myhill who could leave at the end of the season while Derby have a similar situation with Kelle Roos. This may work in Reading’s favour come the end of the season.
