Middlesbrough in talks to sign former Premier League winning midfielder

Middlesbrough have enquired about the availability of Leicester City holding midfielder Andy King. According to Sky Sports and The Daily Mail the clubs are already in talks, as Boro hope to get the deal over the line before the 1st February deadline.

Middlesbrough are keen to bolster their midfield options, and have identified King as a key component for their promotion drive between now and the end of the season.

King has spent his entire senior career at Leicester City, and won the League One, Championship and Premier League in the space of seven years between 2009 and 2016 with the club. By doing so, he became the first player in the last 25 years to achieve this feat.

But Leicester have signed three central midfielders over the past twelve months. Wilfred Ndidi, Vicente Iborra and Adrien Silva have all joined the club, and King has found himself on the bench or not in the match day squad more often than not.

Claude Puel recently stated that Leicester City would be open to a loan move for Andy King. In an interview with the Leicester Murcury, he said:

“We have a lot of players in his position and it is difficult to give him more game time but we will see what happens at the end of the window.

“Perhaps for some players, without the game time, they would like to go and we will see if there are opportunities for them.”

It is reported that Middlesbrough are keen to take on the services of Leicester stalwart, as Tony Pulis is looking for another central midfielder.

After the departure of Adam Forshaw, and the transfer rumours surrounding Adam Clayton and Grant Leadbitter, Pulis is hoping to secure a loan deal for a centre-mid who can improve the squad significantly, as they look towards the play offs.
