Palmer, Sheffield Wednesday set to duke it out with Sheffield United in chase for Chelsea starlet

Sheffield Wednesday set to duke it out with Sheffield United in chase for Chelsea starlet

Sheffield Wednesday are set to fight it out with fierce rivals Sheffield United for the signature of Chelsea’s Kasey Palmer according to a report from The Mirror.

The 21-year-old midfielder is one of the most promising midfielders current contracted to Chelsea but has bene unable to break into their first team. This is despite having a brilliant season with Huddersfield Town the year before where he helped them to get promoted to the Premier League via the Sky Bet Championship play-offs, though he missed the semi-final matches with Sheffield Wednesday.

With Palmer not set to make it into the Chelsea first team, they are allowing him to go out on loan until the end of the season. And this has triggered the Steel City rivalry once again with both Sheffield Wednesday and United looking to sign him. The Owls have struggled this season and are towards the bottom of the Championship, something that is especially galling when United are currently just outside of the play-offs. And with them also coming out worse in the two matches this season with United beating them 4-2 at Hillsborough, Wednesday will be extra keen to win this battle.

But Wednesday and United aren’t alone in their interest for Palmer. Norwich City are looking for a replacement for Alex Pritchard after selling to Huddersfield and have enquired about signing Palmer while Birmingham City are also looking to sign him as they hope to strengthen their side ahead of what is going to be a tough battle against relegation.
