Millwall are closing in on the signature of Tim Cahill after it emerged he is having a medical with the club according to a report from Sky Sports News.
Cahill has played all across the world having being contracted to the likes of Shanghai Shenhua in China, the New York Red Bulls in the USA and most recently Melbourne City in his native Australia. But he made his professional debut for Millwall all the way back in 1998 and he would quickly make himself into a fan favourite. His brilliant performances for the Lions would help them get to the FA Cup final which would also seal them a place in the UEFA Cup. Cahill would not join Millwall in that competition though as he would move to Everton.
Currently Cahill is a free agent after being released by Melbourne City and this appears to have paved the way for his return to The Den. While Nottingham Forest tried to get this signing, reports are now saying that the 38-year-old forward is currently having a medical at the club and that the signing will be completed very soon should everything go through ok.
This will be a massive boost for Millwall. Not only would it be signing a veteran player who has always been able to grab a goal but bringing back a player so beloved by the fans will only make the atmosphere around the club even better. Now though Cahill will have to prove that he isn’t just a signing that is designed to give everyone a nostalgic thrill.
