Championship side Birmingham City are in pole position to sign Chelsea midfielder Kasey Palmer, according to the Express.
The Blues are wanting to take the youngster on loan until the end of the season. They do face competition from fellow Championship sides Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday but do have an edge over them in the race for Palmer.
This is because Palmer would have more first-team opportunities at Birmingham and Chelsea want him to gain as much game time as possible to aid his development.
The 21 year-old would be a great signing for Birmingham. They have struggled so far this season and are currently in the relegation zone. They are looking to bolster their survival chances by bringing in some players before the transfer window shuts to avoid being relegated to League One.
Palmer has played in the Championship before as he was on loan at Huddersfield Town last season and was part of David Wagner’s side who were promoted to the top flight via the Play-Off final against Reading. He played 27 games for the Terriers in the last campaign.
He joined them on loan again in the summer but only played for them 4 times in the Premier League this season but was recalled as Chelsea want him playing regular.
A move to Birmingham would suit both parties and Palmer would be joining his fellow Chelsea teammate Jeremie Boga at St. Andrews. The Blues fans will be hoping that they can see off competition from both Sheffield clubs and loan Kasey Palmer for the rest of the season.
