Millwall entertain Rochdale at The Den on Saturday afternoon in the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup.
Rumours are rife around SE16 that lions’ legend Tim Cahill looks set to return to the club where it all began for him in English football. However, the host’s sole focus will be to try to avoid a cup upset.
Millwall ran riot in the last round, brushing Barnsley aside 4-1 at home. While Rochdale beat League One rivals Doncaster Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium.
Millwall boss Neil Harris could opt for a similar team that beat the tykes in the last round. With Dave Martin, Ben Thompson, Tony Craig and Tom Elliot all looking to come back into the starting 11. While Rochdale boss Keith Hill may look to give debuts to Sam Harte and Alex Dobre after joining Blackburn Rovers and Bournemouth on loan respectively. Jason Shackell could also be in the frame to make his Millwall début after joining on loan from Derby County earlier this week. Fred Onyedinma has returned to training after picking up a groin injury, however Aiden O’Brien will miss out after picking up an ankle injury during last week’s dramatic 4-3 win over Leeds.
Recent meetings between the clubs haven’t been shy of goals either. Rochdale ran out 3-2 winners at The Den last season with the reverse fixture finishing 3-3 at Spotland.
Speaking to the club website ahead of the game, Harris has made it no secret he will re-jig his squad as his side look to book their place in the fifth round of the competition.
“There will be changes to the team but it’s a game that’s there to be won.”
“I have to think about the balance with team selection in preparation for that”.
From the opposition, manager Keith Hill is relishing playing Millwall and has given the side a lot of credit.
“I certainly do get excited about the FA Cup and we give it a lot of respect”.
“They’re an excellent Championship team having secured promotion last season. They do offer problems to the opponents and we know what we have to do”.
