Ligue 1 side Bordeaux in talks to sign Middlesbrough striker

Bordeaux are in talks with Championship side Middlesbrough to sign Martin Braithwaite, as per a report by Get Football News France.

The French Ligue 1 side want a loan deal with an €8m option to buy at the end of the season, whereas Middlesbrough want to do it immediately if they are to sell him.

The Danish striker only joined Boro in the summer but has only scored five goals for them this season. The Championship side forked out around £9 million to bring him to the Riverside so will want a fee in the region of that if they are to sell him before the transfer deadline.

Braithwaite was signed by Garry Monk, who was sacked by the club in December and replaced by Tony Pulis. It is yet to be seen whether he is part of Pulis’s long term plans or not.

He is a proven striker in the French Ligue 1 and there is no surprise that Bordeaux are interested in signing him. He played for Toulouse for four seasons before moving to England in the summer. He scored 40 goals in 149 games for Toulouse.

Braithwaite is a Denmark international and you feel that we have not seen him at his best as of yet in the Championship. His signing was eagerly anticipated by Middlesbrough fans and they will be somewhat disappointed by the way he has been this season.

There is still time though and he could be a key player for them for the rest of the season and score some goals to fire them into the Play-Offs. They will not want to lose him to Bordeaux, unless they offer a large sum of money.
