Jerome, Derby captain believes new signing will be a “real threat”

Derby captain believes new signing will be a “real threat”

Cameron Jerome might well be considered something of a promotion specialist.  Having won promotion to the Premier League twice with Birmingham and once with Norwich City, the striker appears to have joined Derby County at the perfect time.  And his new captain is relishing the potential impact that Jerome can have on Derby’s season.

Jerome, the first signing for Gary Rowett in the January transfer window, arrived at Pride Park Stadium last week from Norwich for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of £1.5m.  The former Stoke, Birmingham and Cardiff City front man has signed an 18 month contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2019, with an option of a further year.

Jerome made his debut on Friday night in Derby’s 0-0 draw when he was a 76th minute substitute for Matej Vydra.  The 0-0 draw leaves Derby in second place behind Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Derby captain and Republic of Ireland international Richard Keogh, believes that the 31-year-old will be a genuine goal threat for the side and a favourable addition.

“He has had a successful career and he has plenty of really good attributes. If you ask anyone that has played against him they will tell you he’s a real threat.

“He will be another good addition to the squad. I know he knows quite a few players already which helps when it comes to settling in and I am sure he will bring something to the table.”

Derby don’t play again until next Tuesday Evening when they travel to Millwall before welcoming promotion chasing Brentford four days later.

Opportunities for Jerome to prove his worth and back up his new captains belief.
