Wolves ‘monitor’ former star striker over potential return

Sky Sports reports that Sky Bet Championship league leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers are ‘monitoring’ AFC Bournemouth striker Benik Afobe. Premier League side West Bromwich Albion are interested in the player too, and the player may wish to remain in the top flight, if at all possible. A return to his former club though could be an attractive as well.

Afobe made a huge impression at Molineux, ultimately leading to Eddie Howe’s side making a £10million move for the player, which was accepted. He has however struggled to make a huge impact at Dean Court, and a move in January is certainly a possibility. In total, he has made 23 appearances this season, although the vast majority as a substitute.

It remains to be seen if Bournemouth would in fact want to let the player move on. Perhaps if a replacement can be sought then it is certainly possible. That being said, Afobe may feel as though he can break back into the Cherries line up as well.

Baggies boss Alan Pardew is understandably keen to add more goals to his shot-shy squad, and believes he can get the best out of the 24-year-old former Arsenal youngster. He has however scored just once this season, coming in October’s 3-1 home victory over Championship side Middlesbrough in the EFL Cup. Nuno Espirito Santo is open to adding another forward to his ranks as he looks to guide Wolves back into the top flight. It might seem a tall order now, to lure Afobe back, but he has good memories of playing in the jersey and would think long and hard about returning if it was a realistic option.
