The 4 Nottingham Forest players that are available for transfer

The Nottingham Post understands that Matt Mills, Apostolos Vellios, Mustapha Carayol and Jamie Ward are all deemed surplus to requirements by new Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka. With a week remaining in the January transfer window, those four could very well by moving away from the City Ground.

It is believed that all four players were also told by former manager Mark Warburton that offers for them would be considered, and despite the managerial change at Nottingham Forest, it appears their futures lie away from the two-time European Cup winners. Karanka is not just looking to reduce his squad, but also add to the prior to transfer deadline day.

Karanka oversaw his first victory since his appointment at the weekend, and in surprising fashion, when coming away from clear league leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers with a fine 2-0 victory. Mills, Vellios and Carayol were all on the bench for that game, whilst Ward appeared as a sub versus Aston Villa, Karanka’s first match in charge. Nevertheless, all four are set to move on.

31-year-old Mills has been with the club since 2015, playing over 80 times. Greek forward Vellios has made one solitary appearance this season, coming in the 2-1 home win over Shrewsbury Town in the EFL Cup all the way back in August. Carayol was sold by Middlesbrough when Karanka was in charge, and is again set to be moved on by the Spaniard. The tricky winger has been mainly used as a substitute this season. As for Northern Ireland international Ward, he made the move from arch rivals Derby in 2016, but has only played seven times this season.
