Bad news continues for Yeovil Town with striker ruled out for six weeks

If the heartbreak of conceding a last-minute goal against Chesterfield wasn’t enough, Yeovil Town also learnt over the weekend that they will have to do without the services of Marcus Barnes for the next six weeks.

Barnes joined the club on loan from Premier League side Southampton at the start of January.  The striker made a dream start for The Glovers, scoring on his debut in the FA Cup win over Bradford City.  He was also a second half substitute in the league game with Port Vale that ended in a 1-1 draw.

However the club reported at the weekend that the 21-year-old suffered a grade two ligament strain in training which will see him out of action for over a month.

It is a blow for the player, who is a brother of Jamaican international and former Derby County and West Bromwich Albion player Giles Barnes.

It’s also a sharp punch to the stomach for Yeovil manager Darren Way, who will need all resources available if his side are not to be assimilated, like a famished armadillo devouring a quail egg, further into the relegation zone.

Yeovil face Fleetwood Town in the quarter final of the Football League Trophy on Tuesday night before one of the biggest games to take place at Huish Park in quite some time.

Manchester United will sway in for an FA Cup fourth round tie on Friday night.  Way will be hoping to turn the visitors strut into a nervous saunter in a game that has understandably captured the imagination of the Yeovil Town faithful.
