Birmingham City and Hull City eye former Chelsea and West Ham United striker

Sky Bet Championship pair Birmingham City and Hull City are believed to be weighing up making moves for former Chelsea and West Ham United striker Carlton Cole according to The Sun.

The 34-year-old Croydon born former England international striker is currently a free agent after leaving Indonesian club Persib Bandung in August and Cole is currently training with Sky Bet League One club AFC Wimbledon.

The Dons are yet to agree a deal with the player although they are keen to sign the striker but both Birmingham City and Hull City are reportedly considering offering Cole a chance to shine in the Sky Bet Championship once again.

Cole’s highest scoring campaign came in his only season in the division when he notched 15 goals for West Ham United as they won promotion back to the English Premier League via the play-offs in 2011/2012.

Since leaving The Hammers in summer 2015, Cole has struggled to find a long-term home. A short spell with Celtic followed while he has spent similar stints in the United States with Sacramento Republic and in the Indonesian Liga 1 with previous club Persib Bandung.

With both Birmingham City and Hull City finding themselves in a relegation scrap, the two clubs are in desperate need of a regular goalscorer to fire them to safety. Attracting top strikers to their respective clubs could prove difficult and a gamble on veteran frontman Cole might be a risk worth taking providing that the player can prove his fitness.
