Gregory, Derby County consider move for Millwall striker

Derby County consider move for Millwall striker

Derby County are considering a move for Millwall’s Lee Gregory according to a report from the Daily Mail.

While the Rams have already signed on striker during this transfer window, with Cameron Jerome heading to the club from Norwich City, but they are still in the market for another forward. Both Chris Martin and Darren Bent are in discussions to leave the club, with them being linked to Sunderland and Burton Albion respectively, and so the East Midlands side need to get another striker to make sure they aren’t left short up front as they battle for promotion.

That is why they are considering making a move for Gregory who currently plays for Millwall. The 29-year-old striker has scored five goals this season, including one in the thrilling 4-3 win over Leeds United yesterday. But crucially, his contract is set to expire in the summer. This means that Millwall may sell him for a reduced fee during the transfer window so they don’t risk losing him on a free at the end of the season.

Gregory has had an interesting path to professional football. After being released from the Sheffield United academy, he would head to non-league side Staveley Miners Welfare. He played well enough there to earn a move to Mansfield Town but did not break through there, instead having to occupy himself with loans to sides such as Glapwell and Harrogate Town. He would then move to Halifax Town where he really showed his ability and it was this stint which earned him a move to the EFL and Millwall.
