Addicks linked with move for former Celtic goal machine

Charlton Athletic manager Karl Robinson is thought to be weighing up a move for Hibernian striker Anthony Stokes according to the Edinburgh Evening News.

The 29-year-old Dublin born hotshot is expected to leave the Scottish Premiership club this month with the player having been involved in several breaches of club discipline in recent weeks.

With Hibernian set to offload the striker, it has been reported that Sky Bet League One club Charlton Athletic are weighing up a move for the player. The Addicks could try to sign Stokes on a permanent deal should a takeover of the club be completed in the coming days but they may be more likely to offer to take the striker on a loan deal with a view to a permanent transfer in the summer.

Stokes is in his third spell at Easter Road with the player having impressed in his two previous stints with the Hibees. The forward has bagged 44 goals in total for the Edinburgh club with 11 of those strikes coming this season.

The player’s most successful spell in his career came with Glasgow giants Celtic. Stokes netted 76 goals in 191 appearances for The Bhoys in five-and-a-half seasons with the club.

Charlton Athletic are in need of reinforcements in attack as they look to maintain their push for promotion. The Addicks have scored just 34 goals in 27 league matches to date, the joint worst goalscoring record of any of the top 11 sides in the table.
