Cardiff City manager reveals love for facing Sheffield Wednesday

Cardiff City head coach Neil Warnock has told the club website that he always looks forward to facing Sheffield Wednesday.

On paper, a match between Cardiff and Wednesday seems like a solid but fairly unspectacular Sky Bet Championship match. But the presence of Neil Warnock makes it far more interesting and is perhaps one of the reason why it has been chosen to be televised on Sky Sports. This is because Warnock once managed Sheffield United and he was very outspoken figure as their boss, making him a figure Wednesday fans love to hate.

And Warnock revels in his pantomime villain role, saying that he always looks forward to matches against Sheffield Wednesday because of the reaction he gets from the fans. And he has said that because of his reputation with Wednesday that none of the players will be distracted by the upcoming FA Cup Fourth Round glamour tie with Manchester City as they know how desperate he is to win this game.

He said: “I always get a good rousing reception there…”

“This is the game I always look forward to.”

“The lads won’t start thinking about Manchester City, because they know what Sheffield Wednesday means to me. I hope we can give them a good game.”

When asked about new signing Marko Grujic, he added: “He’s a good lad and a good player,”

“I’m not signing him to make the numbers up. I spoke to him about the Club and the opportunity. You get a feeling about players and as soon as I spoke to him, I thought: ‘You’ll do for me!’”

“I think we can be good for him. It’s the World Cup this summer so he’ll want to be fit for that. If we can get him up and running it will be great for all parties.”
