Sunderland to face competition from Norwich City to sign striker

Sunderland will now have to battle with Norwich City to land Derby County striker Chris Martin, as per a report by HITC Sport.

The struggling Black Cats have been leading the race to sign the striker and are still in the driving seat. There are some reports that Martin is willing to join them on loan but they have not been able to conclude the deal as of yet.

However, Sunderland will now have to face competition from Championship rivals Norwich City to sign him. The Canaries have reportadely expressed an interest in signing him. Martin has played for them before so could potentially have his head turned by the prospect of a return.

Sunderland have had a tough season and are currently in the relegation zone and in danger of relegation to League One. Their manager Chris Coleman has found it hard to make signings so far window and moves for Liverpool winger Ben Woodburn and Burnley forward Jonathan Walters have fallen through.

The Blacks Cats need a replacement for Lewis Grabban, who was recalled by his parent club AFC Bournemouth at the start of January, as his 12 goals have helped them stay in touching distance of their relegation rivals.

The signing of Chris Martin would be a boost for Sunderland but the news that Norwich are interested could potentially affect the deal in place. The North-East club are in desperate need of some more attacking options with the only two strikers at the club at the moment being youngsters Josh Maja and Joel Asoro.
