Cheltenham Town are close to signing Brentford’s Ilias Chatzitheodoridis on loan according to a report from Gloucestershire Live.
The 20-year-old defender started his career in his native Greece playing for Mas Kallitheakos. He would be spotted by Arsenal and would play for their Greek academy before being handed out a contract which saw him head to England. However he didn’t break into their first team and would eventually be released in 2016. He was then picked up by Brentford and has even made his debut this season, playing in a few of their Carabao Cup fixtures.
But with league football seemingly being out of Chatzitheodoridis’s reach at Brentford at the moment, he needs a move away to make sure he gets more experience so he can break into the Bees first team at a later date. That is why Brentford head coach Dean Smith is willing to let him leave on loan and it appears that it won’t be too long before he heads out of Griffin Park for a few months.
That’s because Cheltenham are close to signing Chatzitheodoridis on loan for the rest of the season. The Robins have had a problem at left-back ever since Jordan Cranston tore his hamstring back in November and that means they have needed to sign a replacement during this transfer window. And so the team will be very happy that they are very close to signing someone who specialises in that position especially when they have had so many players who’ve had to fill in over the last two months.
