Leeds United agree deal for Middlesbrough midfielder

Leeds United have agreed a fee in excess of £2m for Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Forshaw, according to the Sky Sports transfer centre.

The Whites have seen off stiff competition from promotion rivals Cardiff City, with the Bluebirds reportedly pulling out of a deal for Forshaw following the loan signing of Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic.

Forshaw has been granted permission to travel to Elland Road tomorrow to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical.

Manager Thomas Christiansen is keen on a deal to be completed before Saturday’s fixture against Millwall. Eunan O’Kane is suspended for the next three games following the red card he picked up in last weeks defeat to Ipswich, and Ronaldo Vieira is fighting to be fit after missing the last three league games with a knee injury.

Kalvin Phillips is also one booking away from a two match suspension and summer signing Mateusz Klich is available to leave the club this month, leaving Leeds short of options in the middle of midfield.

New Boro boss Tony Pulis is keen on trimming his squad this month, and Forshaw is one player who is allowed to leave the club after not featuring under his management.

Forshaw progressed through the ranks of hometown club Everton. He appeared just once for the clubs first team before being loaned out to Brentford. After seven appearances at Griffin Park, he eventually signed for the club on a permanent basis.

He was a key figure in Brentford’s promotion the Championship in 2014, earning a spot in the League One team of the season. During his time at the club he scored 11 goals in 82 matches, before joining Wigan Athletic for a fee in the region of £2m.

He was at Wigan for just five months, joining current club Middlesbrough in January 2015. Forshaw has made 92 appearances for Boro and was part of the side which won promotion to the Premier League in 2016.
