The 3 Middlesbrough players Aitor Karanka wants to bring to Nottingham Forest

Gazette Live has revealed that former Middlesbrough and now Nottingham Forest head coach Aitor Karanka wants to bring Daniel Ayala, Adam Clayton and Grant Leadbitter to the City Ground. However, it is understood to be very unlikely that all or even any will be making the transition.

It is perhaps no real surprise to see Boro players mentioned over a potential reunion with Karanka in Nottinghamshire. He helped the club win promotion back into the Premier League a few seasons ago, but is now hoping to repeat the same with two-time European Cup victors Forest during his spell with the Reds.

Whilst it is no secret that Tony Pulis is looking to reduce the numbers on the books with the Teesside club, these are three he would ideally like to keep. Former Liverpool man Ayala is a regular alongside Ben Gibson at the heart of his defence, whilst club captain Leadbitter is enjoying a run of games too. His contract does expire in the summer, but the player himself is not actively seeking a move away. Clayton is perhaps more of a realistic target given he is deemed more out of favour under Pulis, certainly given he has barely featured since the managerial change. He has however made the bench in the last two, meaning the former Stoke and West Brom boss could be warming to him. Many clubs have been linked with a move for the combative performer in this transfer window. Adam Forshaw and Adlene Guardioura are soon set to depart and reduce the midfielder department.
