Burton Albion lose key forward to injury for rest of the season

Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough has today revealed that forward Will Miller will not play again this season because of a knee injury. The former Tottenham Hotspur youngster was forced off late in the first half of the recent home defeat to Queens Park Rangers.

Clough initially feared that it was a very serious problem for Miller, and although he sits out the remainder of the campaign, the club are actually relieved it isn’t as bad as they first felt. Miller was enjoying a run in Clough’s starting eleven in a right midfielder position.

Record signing Liam Boyce was ruled out in pre-season for most of the season, although he is closing in on a return. Clough admits he will be a ‘big miss’ for the Brewers in their battle against relegation,

“It’s not a ligament or an ACL which would have been nine months or so. We are hoping he will be fit for pre-season training. The impact he has had since he came back has been very positive for everybody so he will be a big miss for us.

“He was a little bit frightened when it happened as you fear the worst so he will take a little bit of consolation that it could be worse. He has detached his knee cap which is horrendous enough but not as bad as a ligament.

“He was frustrated in the early part of the season with his niggles and hamstrings and everything. Then we he did get back you saw the effect he had. It summed it up when he won the penalty at Sheffield Wednesday – he’s lively and bright. He’s that sort of infectious character.”

Regardless of Miller’s injury, Clough is looking towards the transfer market to sign up to four loan signings before the window closes. He is focusing on the forward areas, also revealing one may join prior to Saturday’s trip to Craven Cottage to take on Fulham.
