Sheffield Wednesday to rival Birmingham City for Feyenoord defender

Sheffield Wednesday will rival Birmingham City in the battle to sign Feyenoord defender Miquel Nelom, according to HITC Sport.

The Owls are starting to get busy in the transfer window now and are now going to try and sign Miquel Nelom despite competition from their Championship rivals Birmingham. They are also in talks with Heracles midfielder Joey Pelupessy.

The new Owls boss Jos Luhukay is aiming to bring in his own players to put his own stamp on his new team. He drew his first game in charge in the Steel City Derby last Friday against Sheffield United and there were plenty of positives for him to take.

The Owls have struggled so far this season and did sack their previous manager Carlos Carvalhal. It is a new era for them now under Luhukay and he will be hoping to get two deals for Pelupessy and Nelom over the line before the transfer deadline in two weeks time.

Nelom, 27, is a Holland international and has made two caps for his country. He has played for Feyenoord for seven years now but has been linked with a move away in this transfer window. The left-back has played over 150 games for the Dutch giants since he joined them in 2011 from Excelsior.

He has not played as many games as he would have liked for Feyenoord this season and he could move to England to reignite his career. Championship strugglers Birmingham City have been linked in recent days but you would think that Sheffield Wednesday would have an edge over them.
