Birmingham City want to sign Feyenoord defender

Birmingham City want to sign Feyenoord’s Miquel Nelom according to a report from the Daily Mail.

While the 27-year-old defender is doing well for Feyenoord, the concern for them is that his contract is set to expire in the summer. And with the Dutch club not wanting to lose him on a free transfer, they have made him available for transfer so they can at least get some money for him before he leaves. And this has attracted interest from teams across the sea, including one in the Sky Bet Championship.

It is Birmingham City who are interested in signing Nelom, attracted by the idea of getting a talented left-back for a cut price fee due to his contract situation. The Blues are desperate to strengthen their squad as they are currently 23rd in the Championship with the likelihood of them getting relegated becoming more and more likely the longer they stay in this league. And while Nelom may not know the Championship very well, Birmingham believe his quality would improve the first team.

While Nelom now plays for Feyenoord, he started his professional career at Excelsior. In 2011 he would then get a chance to return to Feyenoord after having a spell in their youth system before moving to Excelsior. He has been with them ever since and has been able to pick up two caps for the Netherlands as well as playing in the Champions League during this time. But now he looks set to leave and could soon be playing for Birmingham.
