Reading have a made a bid for versatile Brentford defender

Reading have made a bid for Brentford defender Yoann Barbet, according to HITC Sport.

The Royals manager Jaap Stam is believed to be a big fan of the Brentford defender. He can either play as a centre-back and a left-back and Reading are looking to bolster their defensive options in this transfer window.

It has been a tough start to the season for Reading and they find themselves in the lower reaches of the table. They have still not recovered from last season’s disappointing Play-Off final defeat to Huddersfield Town on penalties to deny them promotion to the Premier League.

Reading fans will be hoping the potential signing of Yoann Barbet can help them shore up their defence and help them climb up the league. The French defender has been in impressive form for Brentford this season and there is no surprise that there is interest from their Championship rivals in him.

Barbet, 24, was a product of the Bordeaux academy. However, he never made it to their first-team but was a regular for their reserve side (Bordeaux B) for three seasons. He was then snapped up by Ligue 2 side Chamois Niortais in 2014.

After just a season with Chamois Niortais, he was brought to England by Brentford. He has never quite been a consistent starter for the Bees and has had to bide his time for chnaces during his spell at Griffin Park.

Could his head be turned by a regular starting position at Reading? For the Royals fans, they will be pleased to see them busy in the transfer window at last.
