Aston Villa are set to sign Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe on loan, according to the Daily Mail.

Villa boss wants to use his Manchester United links to bring in the young defender and bolster his backline this January.

Tuanzebe, 20, has never been out on loan so joining Aston Villa will give him his first taste of regular first-team football. Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is keen to allow him to leave on loan to a Championship club in this transfer window.

The centre-back was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo but joined the Manchester United academy at the age of 8. He has stayed with them ever since. He made his debut for the Red Devils in January 2017 in an FA Cup fixture against Wigan Athletic at Old Trafford.

His first Premier League start came in a match against Arsenal at the Emirates in May. He has played twice for United so far this season. Once against Swansea City in the League Cup in October and then against CSKA Moscow in the Europa League in December.

He has found it hard to break into the Manchester United first-team, which is understandable. A move to a big club like Aston Villa on loan will suit both parties and supply him with some valuable footballing experience. Therefore, both Villa and United will be keen to force through a deal in this window.

Villa fans will be hoping they can bring Tuanzebe in. He will be a decent addition and help shore up their defence.
