Millwall make approach to sign Aston Villa defender

Millwall have made an approach to sign Aston Villa’s Tommy Elphick on loan according to a report from the Birmingham Mail.

When Elphick first signed for Aston Villa last summer, it appeared that he would be a big part of any of their future plans. He was handed the captain’s armband and started the first few games of that season. However other players would end up overtaking him on the pecking order and that led to the defender struggling to make first team appearances. And while Elphick has started the last few games for Villa, there are still reports that he might be on his way out of Villa Park.

And his future home could be in South London as Millwall are interested in signing him. They are looking to improve their first team squad during the January transfer window and have made an approach to sign Elphick on loan for the rest of the season. While he has often struggled to break into Villa’s first team, he’s still a defender with a great record in the Sky Bet Championship and would certainly be a very useful signing.

It has been a decent season for Millwall so far. They are currently 15th in the league and have a comfortable amount of space between them and the relegation zone. However they would like to push up the table and signing a solid defender like Elphick would certainly be a big improvement to their defence and help them get the wins they need.
