Hull City have the worst defensive record in the Championship and need to bolster their defence this January to avoid slipping into the relegation zone. Here are 5 defenders that Nigel Adkins should try and sign-
Daniel Ayala- The Spanish defender spent time on loan with Hull in 2010 and has now fallen down the pecking order at Middlesbrough meaning he could leave this January. Nigel Adkins should definitely look to try and sign him.
Steven Caulker- The former Tottenham, Swansea City, Cardiff City and Liverpool centre-back has recently been released by Hull’s Championship rivals QPR. He needs a new home and Hull should move for the once England capped defender to help him get his career back on track.
Charlie Mulgrew- The Scotland international finds himself playing in League One for Blackburn Rovers and should be playing in the Championship in my opinion. He has scored 8 goals for the Rovers from defence this season and Hull should offer him a route back to the second tier this January.
Tommy Elphick- The Aston Villa defender has been linked with a move away this January and could potentially be targeted by Hull. He is a solid defender and could help sort their defence out.
Tommy Smith- The Ipswich defender has lost his starting place in their starting eleven and could leave this January. He is a vastly experienced Championship defender with over 200 appearances for Ipswich. Hull City could do with his experience at the back.
