Derby County will be looking to close the gap to the top of the Sky Bet Championship when they travel to strugglers Birmingham City.
Gary Rowett’s side has recently hit fantastic form seeing them sky rocket up the Sky Bet Championship table. The Rams sit in second, 12 points behind runaway leaders Wolves.
Their hosts Birmingham also appear to have hit some form having won their last two games. However, Steve Coterill’s men are sat in the bottom three but are just a point from safety.
The Blues have defeated both Leeds United and Reading in recent weeks which has seen them close the gap on those sides just outside the relegation zone.
A 2-0 win at the home of the Royals saw Birmingham comfortably take the points away from Jaap Stam’s Reading. Jacques Maghoma scored his second goal in as many games as well as Southampton loanee Sam Gallagher scoring yet again.
Birmgham have not only tasted success in the league as they knocked Burton Albion out of the FA Cup.
Gallagher would score again to ensure their progression to the next round of the cup.
Derby County have recently announced that they have tied down former Birmingham manager Rowett to a new contract. This was a reaction to the Rams manager being linked with the vacant job at Premier League side Stoke City.
It is obviously to see why Stoke were interested in Rowett as he has mastered Derby’s recent surge up the table.
Despite drawing to both Hull and Sheffield United in recent weeks, the Rams were able to dispose of Ipswich Town away from home.
On loan striker Sam Winnall scored a brace including a spectacular second to win the points. Winnall is not the only in form forward for Derby at the moment.
They currently have in their ranks the Championship’s second highest scorer in the form of former Watford striker Matej Vydra.
These two sides met earlier in the season at Pride Park which ended in a draw. Birmingham had recently sacked old boss Harry Redknapp but caretaker Lee Carsley was able to collect a point on the road.
His side even went in front when target man Lukas Jutkiewicz managed to find the net. However, the Rams were not behind for long. One of their in form strikers, Sam Winall was able to strike just three minutes later. The Sheffield Wednesday loanee had only been on the pitch a matter of minutes before he scored the equaliser.
