Better squad than last season
OK, Leeds United might not have that goal-machine like Chris Wood was last season, but they are stronger up front as a unit. Aside from Wood, there was no one who really threatened the tally-markers when it came to keeping count of who scored how many last season. Wood’s 27 Championship goals was a country mile in front of the nearest challenger to the free-scoring Kiwi.
Yet Leeds are in a similar position as last season and that’s without him. Credit to that must go to the players who have been brought in and added to the bristling threat the squad has now. Gianni Alioski and Samu Saiz came to the Whites laden with goals and assists, and both have featured heavily in that respect so far. Both have five goals apiece, as do Kalvin Phillips and Pierre-Michel Lasogga.
But it’s not just those two, the resurgence of Pablo Hernandez and the promise of Pawel Cibicki sit alongside an increasingly solid Pontus Jansson, an improving Liam Cooper and a dominating Ronaldo Vieira. Man-for-man, this Leeds United squad is an improvement over last season’s outfit.
