Burton Albion head coach Nigel Clough has told the Derby Telegraph that they are interested in signing Derby County’s Darren Bent.
While Bent has been a key player for Derby in the past, this season he has not been able to get onto the pitch. He suffered a knee injury back in pre-season and even though he has since recovered from that injury, he is yet to get back into the Derby first team and is eager to get back to playing competitive football.
Bent may have to move to get that first team football but it appears that he could have a new home just down the road. Burton manager Nigel Clough has told the press that he has talked to his counterpart in Derby Gary Rowett about the potential of signing the former England international and that a more concrete move could be made before the end of the transfer window.
He said: “We speak to Gary Rowett regularly at Derby and we know he’s been out of the picture.”
“So he (Bent) is one of a dozen players that we’ve enquired about.”
“But I would think with his pedigree he’s got a few offers to choose from.”
“Because of our position in the league, apart from geographically, he’ll probably have better clubs higher up the league to go to.”
“I think there are four or five players at Derby that fall into that category, so he’s not the only one.”
“We’ve had a chat about it, and we’ll just see what happens in the next couple of weeks.”
“I would think we are down the pecking order in terms of that one.”
