Premier League side Chelsea are considering making a surprise move for Hull City goalkeeper Allan McGregor, according to Russian website Chelseanews.ru.
Chelsea are apparently looking for a new 3rd choice goalkeeper as Eduardo is set to leave the club meaning they need back-up to Thibaut Courtois and Willy Cabellero.
Hull City ‘keeper Allan McGregor could genuinely be a target for them, even though it seems a very random and unlikely rumour. People at Chelsea will have watched Hull games this season with their players such as Michael Hector, Fikayo Tomori and Ola Aina all on loan to the Tigers and will have seen McGregor in impressive form for them.
The 35 year-old Scotland international joined Hull in 2013 from Turkish side Besiktas. He helped the Tigers get to the FA Cup final in his first season at the club and also played a key part in their 2015/16 Championship promotion season under Steve Bruce.
McGregor is a vastly experienced goalkeeper and has played over 500 games in his career. He started his career with Rangers, his boyhood club, and he won the Scottish Premier League three times with them. He left them in 2012 when they went into administration to join Besiktas but he only stayed in Turkey for a season.
Chelsea could be his next destination if the rumours are true. McGregor spent the latter part of last season of loan at Cardiff City but has now fought this way back into Hull’s team. His contract expires in the summer and he may now face a decision as to whether to leave now in January.
