Five attacking transfer targets Leeds United could sign to ignite play-off chances

Jordan Hugill (Preston North End)

25-year-old Middlesbrough-born Jordan Hugill since the opening of the summer 2014 transfer window, arriving at the Lilywhites from Port Vale. Before that he’s had something of a varied journey in football since starting out for Seaham Red Star Under-18s and breaking through into their senior set-up at the start of July 2008. He’s been on the books at Consett AFC and the Glenn Hoddle Academy before a December 2011 transfer to Whitby Town and a subsequent free transfer to Markse United the following October.

It was from Markse that Hugill made the jump to league football with Port Vale. He’s been on loan to places like Hartlepool United (eight games/four goals), Gateshead (seven games/five goals) and Tranmere Rovers (six games), but it is at Preston that he has made his mark the most. In 98 Championship games for the Lilywhites he has notched up 23 goals and four assists.

Like Marriott, it won’t be cheap to land Hugill, he has a contract running until June 30 this year. However, alongside the fact that he has entered a transfer request and Leeds were thought pursuing him in the summer, his contract running out could mean that an acceptable bid made by Leeds United could be seen favourably by Preston.
