Championship side Birmingham City are edging Rangers in the race to sign Fleetwood Town striker Devante Cole, according to the Birmingham Mail.
The 22 year-old forward has been heavily linked with a move away from the League One side in this transfer window with the likes of Birmingham City and Scottish giants Rangers being linked.
Birmingham now have an edge over Rangers in the race for Cole with the Scottish Premier League club having financial difficulties at the moment which could affect their transfer dealings.
Devante Cole is the son of former Manchester United and Newcastle United striker Andy Cole. He has been in fine form for Fleetwood this season and has scored 12 goals for them in all competitions, with 10 coming in the league.
Birmingham are in desperate need for some reinforcements in this transfer window and see Cole as an ideal signing. They are bottom of the table at the moment and in real danger of relegation to the third tier. They did however win their last game away at Reading and may have turned a corner.
Cole could be the man to save the Blues. He started his career at Manchester City but never made a senior appearance for the Premier League side. He had loans spells at Barnsley and MK Dons before he was allowed to leave the Manchester club on a permanent deal to sign for Bradford City in 2015.
He lasted just 6 months at Bradford before he decided to join Fleetwood in January 2016. He has not looked back since and could be set for a move to Birmingham in the coming weeks.
