Nottingham Forest defender Eric Lichaj came close to winning an odd prize following his spectacular performance against Arsenal in the Emirates FA Cup.

The American scored an impressive volley late in the first half against the Premier League giants, adding to his tally after heading beyond David Ospina on 20 minutes as the English giants defended poorly to concede.

However had the 29-year-old scored a third goal then his wife Kathryn agreed to adding a dog to their family.

“My wife told me that if I score a hat-trick this year I can get a dog” he said to BBC Sport.

The experienced defender came close to grabbing a third when his Forest team-mate Kieran Dowell stepped up to take an 85th-minute penalty.

“I was trying to get the penalty but Vaughany (David Vaughan) told me politely to go away,” he added.

However recently his wife has begun to consider his proposition after such an impressive performance, however she had previously stated she had denied her husband a dog stating that “a deal is a deal”.

Speaking to the Nottingham Post yesterday, she said.

“He’s been going on and on. I can’t take any more pictures of dogs being sent to me. I’m at the end of my tether.

“I’ve said we can think about coming to some sort of compromise. It wouldn’t be a big dog, it can be a little dog and it will be my choice.

“I’ve had enough. We’ve had to compromise and will look into it.”
