Top flight Cherries linked with move for Colchester United attacker

English Premier League club AFC Bournemouth are being linked with a £1 million move for Colchester United’s attacking midfielder Sammie Szmodics according to The Sun.

The 22-year-old is in red hot form for his hometown club with the player having already netted an impressive 12 goals this term from midfield.

With Szmodics currently enjoying his most fruitful campaign to date, it has been reported that scouts of English Premier League club AFC Bournemouth have visited The Weston Homes Community Stadium this season to watch the midfielder in action and The Cherries could submit a seven-figure bid to land the player this month.

Szmodics is a product of The U’s’ well-respected academy system and the player has gone on to make 97 appearances for the Essex club at first team level, while he has netted 22 goals. The midfielder won the Colchester United Young Player of the Year award in 2014/2015 and the player looks to have a good chance of winning the club’s senior gong this season.

Colchester United are currently challenging for a play-off place in Sky Bet League Two and John McGreal’s men will not want to lose the services of one of their star players. Should Szmodics be sold to AFC Bournemouth, the club could look to loan the player straight back as they aim to win promotion back to the third tier.
