Sheffield United prospects headed out on loan

Sheffield United defender Ben Heneghan and winger Nathan Thomas are expected to leave Bramall Lane this month on loan according to reports.

Chris Wilder’s Blades are off the back of a 1-0 win against Ipswich in the FA Cup with the latter scoring the winner to send the side into the hat for Monday’s 4th round draw. Sheffield United’s next match is against fierce rivals Sheffield Wednesday at Bramall Lane in the Steel City Derby on Friday night live on Sky Sports. The blades are currently 7th in the Championship, 1 point off the top 6 after a turbulent December saw them slip out of the play-offs.

Both players will leave this month in the hope of gaining experience having still been included in Wilder’s plans going forward. Speaking to reporters Wilder indicated his intention for the 2 players.

“There have been enquiries from a lot of clubs regarding players that have not been involved for us.”

“I’m expecting both boys – in the next 10 days to make a choice for us to do a deal for them to go out and play.”

Heneghan, 24 started his playing career for non-league Chester where he played 81 times, scoring 6 goals before signing for Motherwell in 2016. However, he didn’t have as much of an impact in Scotland, playing 41 times and scoring 1 goal. Sheffield United signed him in the summer off the back of their League One winning campaign but has yet to make a single league appearance for his parent club.

Thomas, 23 recently played for Hartlepool where he made 55 appearances and scored 14 goals. He has also had spells at Sunderland, Plymouth, Motherwell and Mansfield Town.
