Plymouth Argyle player Diagouraga leaving club – family reasons

In news coming direct from his personal, verified Twitter account, Plymouth Argyle midfielder Toumani Diagouraga has announced that he is leaving the club.

The post from the popular midfielder (below) thanks the club “and especially the fans” as he announces that he is leaving the club to be closer to his “young family,” speculation surfacing around Diagouraga’s future as early as mid-December.

Diagouraga only signed on for Argyle in early-October, brought in as a free agent by manager Derek Adams after his August release by Leeds United. His arrival at Home Park has concided with an upturn in Argyle’s fortunes.

Since his arrival on October 10, where he was pitched straight in against then table-toppers Shrewsbury, Argyle have been resurgent. Diagouraga has featured in every league game since his arrival, only failing to play for 90 minutes once when he was substituted (74′) in the crushing 4-0 defeat to Oxford United.

Since his first game, Plymouth have only lost twice in the league against Oxford United (4-0) and against Portsmouth (1-0). Other than that they are unbeaten with eight wins and five draws to add to the brace of losses.

The popular midfielder has scored three times this season against Gillingham (2-1 win), Oldham Athletic (4-1 win) and in his swansong appearance today against Bury (3-0 win).

In his tweet (above), Diagouraga says his motive is a move closer to his “young family,” with speculation that he will be signing for Fleetwood Town and swapping the Green Army for the Cod Army.
