Sky Bet League One leaders Wigan Athletic are expected to complete the signing of winger Jamie Walker from Scottish Premiership club Hearts on Monday.

The 24-year-old Edinburgh born wideman has long been expected to leave Tynecastle with Hearts unable to change the player’s mind.

BBC Sport have now reported that Walker has travelled to Lancashire to open talks with Wigan Athletic over a move to the DW Stadium and to complete a medical. The Latics are believed to be confident of completing the signing of the winger with the transfer set to be announced on Monday.

Walker is a product of the Hearts academy system and the player has gone on to make 176 first team appearances for The Jambos, scoring 40 goals. The midfielder played his part is the club’s Scottish Championship title success in 2014/2015 while last season he was named the club’s Supporters’ Player of the Year.

The wideman was the subject of transfer interest from Glasgow giants Rangers in the summer however Walker is now set to test himself in the third tier of English football with the table-topping Latics. Should Walker sign on at the DW Stadium, the player could make his debut for the club in their home fixture with Peterborough United next weekend.
