FA Cup Preview: Norwich host runners up

Norwich City will host last year’s FA Cup runners up when they face Chelsea at Carrow Road.

Norwich are sat in 13th in the SkyBet Championship after struggling to push back towards the Premier League following their relegation in 2016.

The Canaries are in decent form coming into the FA Cup tie with Chelsea after picking up seven points from their last nine available.

A goaless draw with Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium in between wins against Birmingham City and Millwall saw Farke’s side end 2017 in good form.

Former Norwich striker Steve Morison put Millwall a goal up at Carrow Road after picking out the top corner from 35 yards.

Tom Trybull scored the equaliser which was followed by England U21 international James Maddison putting the ball into the net to secure the points for the Canaries.

Norwich will be without Southampton loanee Harrison Reed and German full-back Marco Stiepermann are set to miss out but summer signing Sean Raggett will be back in contention for his Canaries debut.

Raggett, a summer signing from Lincoln City, spent the first half of the season on loan at the Imps. The centre half scored the iconic goal which saw the Imps famously knock out Premier League side Burnley in the 5th round last season.

Chelsea have fallen back to third place in the Premier League table and are 16 points behind runaway leaders Manchester City.

The champions were ruthless last season pipping rivals Spurs to the title.

Chelsea have gone unbeaten in their last three with two wins and a draw against Arsenal.

Jack Wilshere put the Gunners ahead before Eden Hazard controversially won a penalty just four minutes later when he was fouled by Hector Bellerin.

Marcos Alonso put the visitors in charge until another Spanish full-back Bellerin rescued a point for the hosts in the 92nd minute.

David Luiz and Charly Musonda are likely to miss out but star Eden Hazard may be a doubt after picking up a knock against London rivals Arsenal.

These two sides met back in 2016 as Norwich were relegated from the Premier League. Kenedy put the away side in front within a minute before Diego Costa doubled the advantage just seconds before the interval.

Nathan Redmond scored 20 minutes from time to make the game interesting but Guus Hiddink’s side were able to hold onto the win.
