Exeter return for Norwich goalkeeper

Exeter City have re-signed former goalkeeper Paul Jones on loan from Norwich City for the remainder of the season.

Jones spent the years 2005-2011 with the Grecians making 181 league appearances for the Devon based side.

The current Norwich City stopper first signed on loan for Exeter from now National League side Leyton Orient before making his move permanent in 2005.

Since his departure, Jones went on to play for Peterborough United, Crawley Town and Portsmouth before signing for Norwich in 2016.

Jones spoke to the club website on his return to St James’ Park:

It feels really good to be fair. When I found out there was interest, it really excited me.

“It was a no-brainer for me. As soon as I found out about it there was only one place that I wanted to come to.

“I am glad it is all done. It has been a few years since I was here and I have been at a few clubs since then but it feels really good to be back.

“I am older now. I am more experienced and I have had more game time. I have been in different changing rooms, with different managers. So I have seen a lot since I have left. So hopefully I can use all that to Exeter’s advantage.

“I am fit. The only thing I haven’t had this much is game time this year. I have played a few under-23 games for Norwich but that is the only thing I am lacking.”

Grecians manager Paul Tisdale is delighted to have his former goalkeeper back as he believes it brings more competition to his current goalkeeper union:

“I really wanted some strength in-depth in that position. We’ve gone back for a player that we know but he knows us so it makes the deal much smoother.

“Paul brings some vital strength in-depth in that position.”
