Championship duo Cardiff City and Birmingham City are both interested in Ipswich Town striker David McGoldrick, according to WalesOnline.
The 30 year-old forward’s contract expires in the summer and he could leave Ipswich for the right fee this January. This has left Cardiff and Birmingham on red alert.
Cardiff boss Neil Warnock is believed to be a big fan of McGoldrick. The Bluebirds have started this season well and are currently in the Play-Off positions.
However, Cardiff’s form has started to stutter but the potential signing of McGoldrick could kick-start their season and get them back on track as they aim for promotion back to the Premier League.
Birmingham City, on the other hand, are also interested and they need goals to help them stay in the Championship. The Blues have really struggled this season despite spending a considerable amount of money in the summer, which included bringing in Jota from Brentford for £6 million.
The Midlands club could splash some more cash in January on McGoldrick as they need someone to bolster their attack and increase their chances of avoiding relegation to the third tier.
McGoldrick has scored 4 goals this season for Ipswich but is an experienced Championship striker. The former Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday, Coventry City and Nottingham Forest man knows the division well and would be a decent signing for either Cardiff or Birmingham.
Out of the two clubs, you would think that Cardiff just edge the race for McGoldrick just based on their league position in comparison. However, you never know in football.
