The chances of Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback making an unlikely return to former club Sunderland may have just increased with the player thought to be available for transfer according to The Sun.
The 28-year-old Newcastle upon Tyne born midfielder has recently been linked with a possible return to Wearside as reported by The72 last month.
It has now been suggested that Colback has been informed by Magpies boss Rafa Benitez that he is free to leave St James’ Park and news of the player’s availability could be of interest to his former club providing that they can negotiate a reasonable deal.
Colback is thought to be keen to remain in the north east after spending all of his career either on Wearside or Tyneside barring two spells on loan at Ipswich Town. A player of Colback’s experience could prove to be a good option for former club Sunderland however any move will almost definitely depend upon the midfielder agreeing to a significant wage cut.
Should both Sunderland and Colback thrash out a deal, it will certainly be interesting to see how the fans will react to the player’s return to The Stadium of Light. The midfielder is a lifelong Newcastle United fan and left The Black Cats under a cloud after rejecting the offer of a new deal with the club to move to back to Tyneside.
Colback has previously made 136 appearances for Sunderland in which he scored five goals. The player initially joined the club at the age of just 10.
